Orthodontic treatment options at Cambridge Family Dental
Orthodontic treatment is the most popular way for patients with crooked, overcrowded, or misaligned bites to improve their smiles’ overall appearance and actual function. Braces have come a long way over the years, and now patients have more choices when realigning their teeth. At Cambridge Family Dental of Cambridge, Wisconsin, patients and families interested in orthodontic treatment can connect with Dr. Angela Bauer Williams and her team to learn more about braces.
What are braces?
Braces, or orthodontia, are the use of metal appliances to straighten the teeth. Traditional metal braces use metal brackets, but we also offer tooth-colored, or ceramic, brackets. These brackets are glued to the surfaces of the teeth and then connected with a metal guidewire. This wire is adjusted regularly by the dentist to gently move teeth into proper positioning. It is a reliable way to address overbites, underbites, crossbites, overcrowding, and other alignment concerns.
Hi, I am Dr. Angela Bauer from Cambridge Family Dental. Have you ever wondered why we wait until all the adult teeth are in and then they’re crooked because there’s not enough room for the teeth? Well, we had the same thought. So here at Cambridge Family Dental, we believe in early treatment. We start as soon as the first molars, the six year molars are in. So traditionally, those are the ages around six, sometimes up to age nine. By starting early, we can use appliances to help direct the growth and develop the arch so there’s enough room for all of those adult teeth. So if we see that there’s crowding in the baby teeth, or maybe they’re all tight together, we know there’s not going to be enough room for all those big teeth. So by developing the arch, we may not completely eliminate the need for braces, but there’s a chance, and we can definitely reduce the amount of time those teens will be in braces. And by starting early, developing the arches, we can help avoid pulling teeth and surgery. So if you’d like to learn more about this early treatment option, give us a call.
What other option is available to me?
At Cambridge Family Dental, we are also pleased to provide alternatives for our patients to consider. This includes our orthodontic treatment using clear aligner trays. The clear aligner trays are best suited for those with mild to moderate misalignment of teeth in the dental arch who want a more discreet way to enhance their smile over several months. Clear aligner trays may be an option for you, which is why we encourage all patients considering orthodontic treatment to connect with our team for a consultation visit and initial evaluation.
